Hey guys! One more time I am here to talk a little bit more about saving money On my last video I talked about my goals, so today I wanted to share some things I do so I can save money before traveling For the last five years, I have been traveling a lot around the globe and this is my main goal And during the exchange program I was in the USA I could travel a lot around the country I used to save all the money I got in order to travel When I came back to Brasil I decided to keep doing it and I took advantage of where I was I’ve been to many many places here as well I’ve gone to Central America and some countries in South America too and reticently I visited Europe During these years I realized I had some tricks to find great deals Couple of days ago I recorded a video but it was incredibly long, like 30 minutes Seriously, impossible to share it! So I decided I will record some videos to talk about saving money topics related to saving money and traveling Let me start talking about the tickets It is not a miracle to find good tickets however, you need to pay attention on some stuff, really important stuff I know everyone has vacation time and some people get it around Christmas or summer But I always prefer to travel during lower season The high season is awful because everyone is there, I mean, the whole world is there.. inside our pictures Because my job is flexible, I usually travel when no one wants to travel Let’s say during the rainy season or after the highest season A great thing to think about is having flexible dates, it can be on Friday but leaving on a Wednesday can be very convenient too Sometimes it requires some effort from us I check many websites at the same time, I usually don’t go straight to the company’s webiste but I prefer those that have more than one company connected, such as Google Flights, Momondo, Skyscanner, Decolar for tickets in Brazil There is also an app called Voopter. It shows to you some companies that you can buy miles and you see which one is cheaper Usually on theses websites you cannot purchase a ticket, it sends you to a different website or it might charge you a fee to get a ticket through them Well, I usually run away from those fees Since I know the time of the good ticket and the rate, I go go straight to the cheapest company and I get it there, so I don’t have to pay 2 different fees Like I said before, I have a list of place I want to go around the world So usually I don’t have a fixed destination I keep looking and some day I am sure I will find a great ticket to that place Google Flights shows you a map You put where you are, your date or you don’t even put a date remember what I said about flexible dates? and it shows you on a map the prices and places you can go from that origin so if you want to go to a country in Central America for example, you can see everything on the same page No need to look for each one separately Another trick I learned is choosing the airport you leave I live in a small city in Brazil and our airport is pretty small, four gates everyone! So I never get a ticket starting from here I get two different tickets! One from my city to a major airport and another one from the major airport to my real destination I do it because most of the time I save more than $300 dollars For many times this happened and it always was more expensive to leave from here The flights that leave my city never go straight to another country, it must stop in a bigger airport before São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, or wherever So the only thing I do is breaking the ticket Doing this the price of the ticket get lower But there are two tiny little problems doing it This first one is your luggage: you need to drop it off and pick it up in the major airport again because when you get two separate ticket they understand it is your final destination and from there, check in again and drop it off one more time Here in Brazil we have the new rules about luggage, so on national flights we are only allowed to bring one carry on, so if you are not a special customer, you have to pay for it separately but I would rather pay $20 for this flight than $300 bucks for the tickets together and the international flights usually allow us to take at least one luggage The other problem is that your intenational flight is not connected to your national one, so if for some reason you get there late, you will need to pay a fee to get another flight or even lose all the money So you must pay attention on the time between your flights. It must be enough. I usually buy my national flight in the morning and my international flight in the afternoon or at night Because problems happen sometimes! If my flight gets canceled here in my city, the company must put me in the next flight, because my tickets are independent I always get nervous about it but I prefer to save $300 and I have never had a problem with that Plan in advance the time of your flights and you are ok My next trick is taking advantages of stopovers or even long layovers I look forward to have long layover (I know it sounds crazy) but I love getting tickets with it but like, truly long! Five hours are nothing, so I usually want 7 hours or more. During summer, my fiancé and I went to Europe and I had a layover of 8 hours in Rome I actually had 2 layovers, one to Paris and one from Paris, so I could stop in Rome two times and go to different places! I walked around Rome, had a pizza, a gelatto, took pictures and got back to the airport and for nothing even a penny more, I could see another city in Europe Try to make the useless time in the airport become a fun time in a different place Have you heard about multi-city tickets? I also do this as a trick to go to more places If you don’t know about it you are losing too much money! I am not gonna talk about it here it is better if I do a tutorial on my instagram, so make sure you follow me for this @isaabelamaia I am gonna put as my highlight We have a webiste here that let you know when airlines are having sales It is called Passagens Imperdiveis But I usually use it to have a reference for the prices of the tickets because we need to know if the tickets we find are expensive or cheap Sometimes we have no idea how much it is to travel to certain countries but sometimes it is more than the double that other people are paying I think that is it! These were some of the tricks I had, I am sorry if I forgot one or two but I get nervous lol If you like this video, share it with people that you know that like to travel, but think it is too expensive Of course, sign up because I am going to post other videos about it There are many many things I do besides the tickets and I want to know what you guys do to save money on the tickets! Let me know on comments under this video, so you can also help me or text me on Instagram! See you guys soon
