Conheça 25 pequenas cidades em Santa Catarina que certamente vão entrar no seu roteiro na próxima vez que visitar o Estado.
Hi people, Elzinga here, and after the success of the small towns in Rio Grande do Sul video today I’m going to introduce you to the main small towns in Santa Catarina that you should definitely visit. And making it clear again, we are talking about the highlights among small towns with up to 10,000 inhabitants, which, in total, in Santa Catarina has more than 150 of them. So, without further ado, stick your thumb on the like button and let’s go. Starting with ÁGUAS DE CHAPECÓ, a city of just over 6,000 inhabitants in western Santa Catarina that is part of the tourist region of Vale das Águas. The city stands out mainly for its activities around the Chapecó and Uruguay rivers, and also for its thermal waters, which have an average temperature of 37ºC. The highlights are the Hidroeste Park and also the Foz do Chapecó Hydroelectric Power Plant, which produces enough energy to supply more than 5 million homes. Another place is Alfredo Wagner, the capital of Santa Catarina with 10 thousand inhabitants. The city, located in the Alto Vale do Itajaí, stands out mainly for the reliefs of Serra Geral, Serra da Boa Vista and Serra dos Faxinais. One of the highlights in the city is the set of rock formations called the Soldiers of Sebold. This place is amazing. Apiúna and its 10,000 inhabitants is another place worth visiting. The city, which is bathed by one of the best rivers in Brazil for rafting, the Itajaí-Açu, has numerous attractions, but the ones that draw the most attention are the more than 80 waterfalls there; also the Maria Fumaça that passes by the Santa Catarina Railroad, the São Jorge Primeiro Cave , the Dom Bosco Hill, the Cruz Hill and the Bicudo Hill. How about Ascurra? Do you know? It is a small town of 8,000 inhabitants in the Middle Valley of Itajaí region, which is strong in adventure tourism, such as rappelling in Salto Andorinhas and free flying in Serra da Leona Park. But in addition, Ascurra has numerous churches that are more than 100 years old, such as the Matriz inaugurated in 1905 and also several other buildings that attract a lot of attention. And have you ever heard of Bom Jardim da Serra? It is a city with 4 thousand inhabitants that until 1967 was part of São Joaquim. Bom Jardim da Serra is at an altitude of 1,250 meters and is regarded as the gateway to the Serra Catarinense and also as the “capital of waters” due to the 35 waterfalls that exist there and the 14 springs of rivers. The city is a huge tourist highlight throughout the state. It has 3 canyons: Ronda, Funil and Laranjeiras, and it is there that you can find the Serra do Rio do Rastro viewpoint, one of the most beautiful and winding roads in Brazil, which officially belongs to Lauro Muller. Other highlights are the Pico do Rinoceronte at 1,400 meters of altitude, the Barrinha Waterfall. The Small Waterfall of the Pelotas River. The Bom Jardim da Serra Wind Farm. And the Mirante Serra park with a great view. Continuing. Another nice place is Bom Retiro, the city in the Serra Catarinense closest to the coast, which has 10,000 inhabitants and is above 890 meters in altitude. And it is in this city that Morro da Boa Vista is located, the highest peak in Santa Catarina at 1823 meters. Other highlights are the Encano Canyon, the Museum of the Memory of German Immigrants of Entry, numerous caves, waterfalls and Morro da Cruz with a lookout at 1,340 meters of altitude. Botuverá, with 5,000 inhabitants, in the Middle Valley of Itajaí, is another town worth visiting. The city is known throughout Brazil mainly for its huge caves, such as Botuverá, which extends for over a thousand meters and 9 halls. Some of them up to 20 meters high, filled with natural sculptures. And do you already know Coronel Freitas? It is a city of almost 10,000 inhabitants in the west of Santa Catarina that is always sought after by the people who enjoy a sunset. And how about Doutor Pedrinho, a small town with 4 thousand inhabitants strong in ecotourism? There may be few people who live in the city, but it is much sought after by many people because of the adventure activities and some attractions such as the Salto Donner Waterfall, the Alto Capivari Waterfall (a.k.a. Paulista), the Véu de Noiva Waterfall with 63 meters of heightl, the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Grotto and the Caixão Canyon. Another small paradise in the west of Santa Catarina is Formosa do Sul, home to just over 2,000 inhabitants, and one of those quiet places you just want to go to get away from the madness of the big city. Grão-Pará is another interesting place, which despite not seeming to be part of Santa Catarina because of its name, represents the state very well. It is a city of more than 6,000 inhabitants and it is there that the Serra do Corvo Branco is located, where we find a 90 meter high rock with a crack in the middle where the road passes. It is also where the Serra Furada State Park and the famous Serra Furada hole are located. Other highlights in the city are the Sacred Pyramids and the Tunnel River. And if you’re into history, you’ll love getting to know Itá, in the western region, with its 6,000 inhabitants. Due to the construction of the Itá Hydroelectric Power Plant, the city was completely submerged and then rebuilt and reopened in 1996. What remains visible of the old city are the towers of the Igreja Matriz São Pedro Apóstolo. Other highlights there are the third longest zipline course in South America with 1,780 meters, and the Aqua Parque Itá Thermas. In José Boiteux, with 5 thousand inhabitants, it is the Laeisz River waterfall, which is accessed by trail, and the Wiegand waterfall, 20 meters high, that draw attention. In Quilombo, with 9,000 inhabitants, the highlight is Salto Saudades, a must-go in western Santa Catarina and a kind of miniature Iguaçu Falls, as they call it. So, are you getting to know a lot of new stuff today? Comment down there. Leave your mark. And if you already know any of these small towns, use #MinhaFotoNoElzinga when posting something on social networks and the best photos will be reposted. And if you liked my shirt, go in the description that has the link to Tu Shirts, a store that makes t-shirts with personalized prints from each region of Brazil. This is Santa Catarina’s. Continuing our list. In Paulo Lopes, with its 7,000 inhabitants, 47% covered by Serra do Tabuleiro, is where Guarda do Embaú Beach is located, which many say is in Palhoça, but actually what is in Palhoça is the village of Guarda do Embaú, because the beach belongs to Paulo Lopes. In Piratuba, with 3,000 inhabitants, it is where the famous Piratuba Thermal Baths are located, with gushing sulfurous waters of 674 meters deep that guarantee a 38ºC bath at any time of the year. An interesting curiosity here is that, in 1964, Petrobrás came to this region to look for oil, but ended up finding sulphurous waters, and since then Piratuba has been the tourist power that it is. Praia Grande is another fantastic place. There are 7,000 people who live in a place that, despite its name, has neither a beach nor is it big. Praia Grande is one of my favorite cities in Santa Catarina because of the canyons. The difference here is that, instead of staying in the high part of the canyons, you are in a low city and you can see them all right in front of you. It is the steepest stretch of the mountain with super vertical walls. No wonder the city is known as the “Capital of Canyons”. In addition to these giant things, the city is super famous for adventure tourism, the balloon ride and the trail of the Boi River that passes through the canyons. So crazy! And do you know Rancho Queimado? It is a city of almost 3,000 inhabitants famous for its rugged terrain , altitudes of over 800 meters and landscape. Rancho Queimado is that kind of place where you look anywhere and want to take a picture, especially if you go up to Morro da Boa Vista at 1,200 meters. In Santa Rosa de Lima, with 2,000 inhabitants, the agroecology capital of Santa Catarina is where we find a place with indescribable natural landscapes. In São Pedro de Alcântara, with 6,000 inhabitants, it is where the first German colony of Santa Catarina is located. The city, which breathes the interior climate, is strong in rural tourism, ecotourism, historical buildings and also some attractions such as the Church of São Pedro de Alcântara with a dome that reminds a lot of the Basilica of São Pedro. Another interesting place is Timbé do Sul with 5,000 inhabitants. Timbé do Sul is a city that breathes strongly the air of ecotourism that attracts many people looking for trails, waterfalls and mountains. The highlights of the city are the more than 20 natural pools, such as Poço do Caixão and Poço do Violão, and also the Padre’s Waterfall with almost 50 meters in height. And how about Treze de Maio? It is a small town of Italian colonization with 7,000 inhabitants that breathes a lot of rural and ecological tourism and has numerous waterfalls and caves. One of the great attractions of the city is the largest statue of Nossa Senhora de Aparecida that exists in Brazil, but in addition there is also the Belvedere Castle and the Cachoeira da Bunda (Ass Waterfall). Don’t ask me why. And have you ever heard of Treze Tílias? It is a city of 8,000 inhabitants colonized by Austrian immigrants, popularly known as “Austria in Brasil”, or “Brazilian Tyrol" and that enchants everyone with its natural beauty and typical architecture. There stands out practically everything that exists, so I’ll let your curiosity go to Google and search about Treze Tílias. And to finish our list, let’s go to Urupema, in Serra Catarinense, with its 2,500 inhabitants. Urupema is a city with an average altitude of 1,425 meters, so it goes without saying that it is cold there. In reality, Urupema is fighting with neighboring cities over who is the coldest in Brazil. The lowest temperature ever recorded was -9.4ºC on July 7, 2019. But talking about some interesting places, the highlights are the clear rivers, the fields, the Araucaria forests, the Manoel Pinto de Arruda Square, the Church of Santana, and of course, Morro das Torres at 1,726 meters of altitude with a famous waterfall that freezes. So cool! Well, that was it. If you liked the video, pass it on. If you didn’t like it, I don’t even know why you watched it so far. That’s it for today people. A kiss on your tits with all the respect in the world, and until next time. Bye!
